Export a marked clip from case video
Long body-cam, interview, and surveillance files are often the exhibits you need, and also the files you cannot attach to a note or hand to a colleague as-is. exhibit.law lets you scrub to a moment, choose 15, 30, or 60 seconds, and queue a trimmed MP4 for that matter. The playhead is the midpoint of the window, not the first frame.
The original video is not replaced. The clip is a separate download, built by the case worker, not in the browser tab. You can close the player — processing continues on the server and the result appears on Exports. When a timed transcript already exists, overlapping speech in that window is summarized into the Exports description. That note is not the download name.
Center the playhead, then queue a length
Open a video on the event page, or from Review, Timeline, Search, or Exhibits. The event page puts the player first, with Export clip under it. Scrub to the moment you care about — the playhead is the midpoint. A 30-second clip around 2:30 starts at 2:15. Choose 15 seconds (the default), 30, or 60, then Export clip. Lengths outside those three options are refused; this is a bounded excerpt, not a free-form editor.
Audio-only exhibits do not get this control. If the window would start before zero or run off the end of the file, the job fails instead of padding silence or inventing footage.

Download from Exports when it is ready
Clips appear on the case Exports page as soon as they are requested. Status moves from pending to processing to completed, or to failed with a reason. When a clip is completed, people with access to that list can download the MP4. A notification is sent to the person who requested it.
Filenames are generated, not typed. They follow the source video name plus the mark time, for example Deposition-Day-1-at-1m23s.mp4. Unsafe characters are folded to dashes. The video name is truncated only if the full filename would exceed a filesystem-safe length; the time suffix is kept. When the worker finishes, overlapping timed-transcript segments are summarized into a description if those exist. You can edit or clear that note on Exports. That note never becomes the download name.

Who can request, see, and delete a clip
Anyone who can open the video in the active case can queue a clip — CaseAdmin, Member, Reader, and an Expert whose tag scope includes that exhibit. Exports is still case-scoped: a clip made in one matter is not listed or downloadable from another.
CaseAdmin, Member, and Reader see every clip for the active case. An Expert sees and can download every clip cut from an exhibit inside their tag scope, whoever requested it, and none from exhibits outside it. CaseAdmin and Member may edit descriptions or delete any clip in the case; everyone else may change only their own. Deleting a clip is not deleting evidence — the source media row remains.
A clip is not a case export
This path hands over one short clip from one audio or video exhibit. It is not a bulk download of the matter, and it is not a public share link. There is no guest URL, no email of the file, and no write-back into the original exhibit.
If you need the whole file, use Download on the exhibit. If you need a different window, center a new playhead and queue another clip. Re-export rather than editing the first file in place.
Try it on footage you already have
Open a case you control, play a video on the event page, center the playhead, and export 15 seconds. Leave the page, then return to Exports when the notification arrives. Edit the description if you want, and confirm the original exhibit is still in Exhibits.
